Kitchen Appliances Trend: White is the New Stainless

Stainless steel was all the rage in kitchen appliances but recently I’ve seen evidence that white is trendier. Just look at this kitchen from House Beautiful. I’ve seen these images all over on blogs lately. First it was the shabby chic movement for the house and now it’s the updated modern white for kitchens.

Even though white kitchens have been around the new looks are updated and fresh. You can still mix in some color with decor or pain, add stainless steel appliances or some patterned wallpaper. Just painting the cabinets white and adding new knobs can update a dated kitchen.

Some point to a movie in 2003 called “Something’s Gotta Give” which they say influenced kitchen design for years. Others say it’s an expression of our desire to get back to something timeless and simple. It’s an updated version of a classic and to me it’s less harsh and more comforting than the stark modern kitchen.

White goes with just about anything and it’s easier to keep clean. It’s neutral and so you can easily add color or highlight features of your kitchen. I really love the small white tile as a backsplash.
